‘Cool’ Jim Quig has one love : his job. And he likes it that way. While Jim protects the streets, the heroes take all the credit. He's fine with that, all cops are. Sort of. So when the director of the Super Hero Initiative (SHI) asks Jim to help solve a mystery plaguing SHI headquarters, he's not interested. Who cares if an ancient artifact known as the Hero Engine has been destroyed? Or if every super hero in existence was altered into their superhuman state by the device? It's not Jim's problem. The 'capes' can solve their own mystery.

The director doesn’t take no for answer and Jim’s task is to not only find out who destroyed the Engine, but why one hero has gone AWOL. For the last fifty-two years, SHI has protected the world, but with the destruction of the Engine, and a rogue killing super humans, the golden era of heroes has ended. Cool Jim Quig is about to find out what happens when a cape goes nutso. If only he had just said no to the guy in the flashy suit.

What people are saying about HERO ENGINE:

"The fresh characters in a great concept meant once I started reading I didn’t want to stop. It kept me guessing and theorizing the whole way through. Hero Engine is intense and one of the best books I’ve read in a long time." Rachel O'Neill

"Not your father's superheroes. Great read!" J. Edward Paul author of The Widow's Work

"A 5 star book all the way!!! An extremely well written story with great characters." Amazon reader Dave

"Mr Alexander did a great job making the story believable. He presents a down on his luck cop, Quig, A hero, named Gravitess, and a prim, although not entirely proper, partner named Ann, all tied in an inescapable war that takes its toll on everyone it comes in contact with.
He did a great job explaining the hows-and-whys of the superpowers, which for me, an avid D&D fan, is important. I’ve read books with psionic abilities so outrageous, I couldn’t believe it made it past whoever it was who published it, to stories written by authors that clearly didn’t do their research. Mr Nader is neither of these." Amazon review.
